2–3 tbsp South Indian Filter Coffee Powder
1 cup Water (hot, just below boiling)
¾ to 1 cup Milk (boiled and hot)
Sugar to Taste

Traditional South Indian coffee filter
Coffee tumbler and dabarah set
Saucepan/kettle for boiling water and milk
STEP-BY-STEP BREWING PROCESSINSTRUCTIONS:
1. Pre-heat the Filter:
Pour some hot water into the top chamber and let it sit for a minute. Discard the water. This helps maintain temperature during brewing.
2. Add Coffee Powder:
Add 2–3 tablespoons of filter coffee powder to the upper chamber of the filter.
Gently press the powder with the umbrella/tamper disc (do not pack too tight).
3. Pour Hot Water:
Pour about 100–120 ml of hot water over the coffee powder.
Close the lid and let the decoction drip slowly into the bottom chamber.
This takes around 10–15 minutes.
4. Boil the Milk:
While the decoction is brewing, boil fresh milk. For extra richness, simmer for a few minutes.
5. Mix & Sweeten:
In a tumbler, add 1–2 tablespoons of the decoction, adjust according to desired strength.
Add sugar as per taste.
Pour hot milk over the decoction.
6. Aerate (Optional but Traditional):
Pour the coffee back and forth between the tumbler and dabarah to create froth and mix thoroughly.
